Meet the Team

Meet our highly skilled, motivated team of perfectionists.

Steve & Linda the founders 30 years ago, with a rich history of fencing, logging, firewood, blacksmithing and general rural tasks. Linda runs the office with help from our daughter Izy.

Our son Matt - a tradesman boilermaker with 10 years blacksmithing experience who runs the metal fabrication workshop working alongside Nathan, our apprentice.

Matt also has a fencing/rural services business - Snedden's Rural Services and his skills, especially fencing are highly sought after.

The leatherwork is all hand crafted by our daughter in law Isabelle (Matts wife) who is also a highly skilled horse breaker.

OUR HISTORY

Snedden's Fencing Products is a rural family business which began in 1994. We are passionate about producing top quality, well designed tools which are truly 100% Australian made. We are a husband and wife team (Steve and Linda). With a background of fencing, logging, firewood, blacksmithing and general rural tasks coupled with a trade in boilermaking/blacksmithing and post trade certificates in engineering design Steve has always enjoyed making life safer and easier with his ideas.Steve began winning awards for his inventions in 1996 with the Mortice Safe Chainsaw Attachment - a patented world first - winning The Land National Farm Inventor of the Year 1996 along with a swag of other awards. Followed by the Ezy Rip Chainsaw Attachment becoming The Land National Farm Inventor Runner Up 1997. Our Wire Needle Barb Wire Handling Tool came next with 4 awards including the Queensland Country Life Farm Inventor of the Year 1999. The Knockabout 6 in 1 Fencing Tool was soon to follow in 2001 winning The Land/Graincorp Farm Inventor of The Year, Queensland Country Life Farm Inventor of the Year and The Society of Engineering in Agriculture Award of Excellence - just to name a few. These days Steve does the timber and some of the blacksmithing side of things. Logging, milling, seasoning and crafting the wooden handles. Fitting all tool handles and forging the axes, hatchets and pulaskis. Steve and Linda attend approx 10 field days per year demonstrating, advising and selling our products direct to customers.
We are proud to be keeping traditional axe making skills alive in Australia. We have been manufacturing axes since 2002 after a long period of research and development and a lifelong love of axes. Every step in the development of our axe range follows time honoured traditional methods and has been totally designed and overseen by Steve Snedden.
Top quality alloys - nickel chrome moly (also used to make earth moving tynes for durability and strength) are used. We hand forge each axe to refine the grain structure in the steel for a superior cutting edge. They are heat treated to ensure the correct hardness and temper. Each head is individually hand shaped, sharpened to an all purpose edge ready to use. The grind is suitable for our Australian hardwoods. The handles have been ergonomically designed by Steve and manufactured in house from local spotted gum.
We manufacture our products on our property in Clarence Town NSW where we have a blacksmith shop, metal fabrication shop, saw mill, lathe and woodworking sheds, leather work shop and office.
We are very proud to not get our components or products mass produced overseas - they are made with pride in Australia. We use top quality Australian materials where possible and support other Australian small businesses. Purchasing from Snedden's keeps skills alive and your money stays in this beautiful country of ours.
